I love curating gift guides but it's a special challenge when you're shopping for a man of simple pleasures. Joe is such a content guy who has a few things he thoroughly enjoys (bourbon and Jujitsu to name a couple). He doesn't collect shoes, tech gadgets, or sports paraphernalia. So what do we do for our easy-to-please husbands or dads? Well first of all, experiences are super fun! And now that I think of it, I should write a post on that. But other than that, I love upgrading things he already has. You know- the 12 year old worn out baseball cap or the ratty toiletry case. That said, this father's day gift guide has something for everyone- the active dad, the cook, the stylish dad and more and the best part? It starts at just $14.95. Ok, let's get into these gift ideas for Father's Day!
Father's Day is ONE week from today! If you still need an idea, I've got you! These are all quick ship, minus one product from a small business but if you order today, it should still make it! We have most of these items or they're on my list for Joe. Either way, I only recommend things we love or things we'd love to have! Here are some fun quick ship father's day gift ideas he'll love!
Well I gave Joe the shutterfly book I made and he loved it! I was so excited to give it to him. I was also partly nervous that I did that thing people do when they give gifts suitable for themselves vs. the recipient...but then I thought, 'who wouldn't want to see pictures of his handsome self sharing special moments with his beautiful kids?!' You'd have to be dead inside. [But I did buy him some Nike running clothes just in case..he was dead inside ;)].
Anyway, I mentioned here the reasons why I think photo books make fantastic gifts so I won't detail it again. But I will say making this book was really a gift for me too...for a couple of reasons. Warning: It's about to get real. The first reason? I'd be lying if I said I don't get a tiny bit sad sometimes about our lack of freedom to do what we want when we want. Or about the fun days of 'just the two of us.' I'm sure I'm the only one who feels this way ;) but 2 1/2 years into parenthood & two bambinos--while awesome--does change things. I bring this up because on Joe's 30th birthday I made him a photo book. It was chock full of self portraits of us traveling all over the place and doing fun stuff. Well besides the fact that we now have kids, I'm also a SAHM so our "travel and entertainment" budget isn't exactly staggering. I say all that to say, that there are times when I miss the way things were and feel like we never do anything fun. (side note: it's silly to say 'never,' because it's rarely ever true! Of course we do fun things--just not as often and a different kind of fun). Looking at this book reminded me of what we ARE doing. We are growing kids. And it takes a lot of time, money, and energy. But it's also freakin amazing. Like probably the best thing I've done with my life so far. And I know at this point it may seem obligatory to say, but I would seriously not trade it for the world (or to see the world). So seeing 35 pages of my love with our loves makes my heart so happy and shuts that nagging "we never do anything" refrain right up!
The second reason is equally as judgment inducing. Sometimes, just sometimes I convince myself that I'm the one pouring the blood, sweat, and tears out over these kids...not that Joe isn't an active parent. Frankly, he's amazing. But one of the things that makes marriage hard is our inherent selfishness. The marriage conference we attend talks about the fact that you can never really know if you or your spouse is doing his/her fair share. Who determines that 50/50 line? Neither of us is objective enough to know for sure. So of course there are times when I'm convinced that I'm doing "more." Well going through the tons of photos of Joe with our girls to pick out the hundred or so that I used was a sweet and gentle reminder of just how much time he spends with his girls. And I loved seeing that.
Okay, well I think that's enough terrible mom and terrible wife confessionsto strangers for one day. :) Take a look at the book and let me know what you think! Have you created a photo gift for someone recently? I'd love to hear about it!

Try saying that title three times, fast. I mentioned in this post that I would blog about projects that I tackled after seeing it on Pinterest. It's as much for accountability for me to DO something with all the ideas I collect there rather than just let them gather virtual dust. It's also hopefully helpful for you if you want feedback on some of the recipes and ideas you see there. So much of what's there looks either better than it actually is (recipes) or easier than it actually is (projects). I can guarantee for now my projects will be pretty simple! I don't have a ton of time to make pallet beds and crate bookshelves. ;) When I saw this idea, I thought it seemed easy enough and would be so cute for father's day. Well for Valentine's Day Joe and I usually forgo pricey gifts and instead go out for a nice dinner in which we can order whatever we want and not worry about the tab. My love language is quality time so I'd much rather spend the cash dining out on a date night, sans kids. (And there's still time to hope for a nice night out AND diamonds, but let's just say that's a hope for the future if we play our financial cards right today!).
So I try to find fun little gifts I can give to Joe to still celebrate on that day. Usually it's a simple gift/trinket and lots of chocolate that we both enjoy so I can steal it when he's not looking. This picture seemed perfect for that! I'd purchased the girls Valentines shirts from Wal-Mart a week or so prior. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and I wanted it to be something Genevieve could ruin at school and it wouldn't make me mad. I decided to dress them in those shirts and take the photos that way. I figured I'd have 20 minutes tops before Genevieve got bored and started looking quite cross instead of adorably in love with daddy...and before Nadia started pooping, throwing up, or fussing. [This is the life]. I printed out the words on card stock in a fun, somewhat child like font that I downloaded from here, threw them in a neutral setting with lots of light and went for it. Because I waited until the last minute--story of my life-- I had to print the photos quickly. I googled "online photos same day pick up" and found CVS photo. There is a CVS moments from my house so that was perfect! Here are the photos I used in the frame, the outtakes, and the final product.

I'm a bit bummed I forgot to take their socks off! If you can't tell Genevieve's shirt says "I love my daddy" and Nadia's says "I love mom."
Of course I couldn't get them to both smile at the same time...
Remembered to take their socks off....but can you tell I'm losing them at this point? Yeah, shortly after Genevieve ripped that sign in two.
the outtakes. You HAVE to take a million photos to get 10 good ones. People always ask me how I get them to smile and how I get good pictures of my kids. It's seriously a numbers game. You just keep snapping and at the end you have over 100 photos in 20 minutes but [hopefully] you got a few good ones. I do wish I could have gotten all three with both of them looking and smiling but that is just a pipe dream at this point! But looking at these cute silly girls--I must say in all seriousness: this IS the life.
Final product.
By the way, the frame was only 5.99 from Target! This project cost:
G's t-shirt: 4.88
Nadia's t-shirt: 3.96
Prints: FREE! (first 20 prints free when you sign up- even for same day pick up)
Valentine's hair bows- from grandma
Grand Total: $14.83. Obviously you could have the kid(s) wear something they already have to get the cost down even more. While Valentine's is over, Father's Day is still coming up so that would be a great time..or mother's day...birthday. seriously so cute, simple, and inexpensive you could even do it "just because."
What gifts did you buy or receive for Valentine's Day? Any other projects/tips to get kids' involved in the gift giving?
