The system includes a moisturizing shampoo, a co-wash
(conditioner wash), 2 in 1 shampoo + conditioner, and a scalp soother. Of course my first action was to take a look
at some of the ingredients. The main
ingredients include almond oil, coconut essence and zinc pyrthione (which is
the active ingredient that fights dandruff). I could immediately tell from the packaging that this
product is intended to moisturize.
I read the instructions and was happy to see that you can
get results with twice weekly use. Since
my hair is dry I don’t wash it daily, but this system adds moisture
immediately while locking it in over time. The co-wash portion was a bit confusing. I
thought it was a standalone product but it said to use after the shampoo. After reading the materials that came
with the product I realized it could be used in conjunction with shampoo or on
its own. I've heard co-washes are the
way to go since they aren't harsh like traditional shampoo and can
lengthen time between washes so I was eager to try it. I was pleasantly surprised that the products smelled good. I’ll be honest; since Head & Shoulders is
for dandruff I thought it might smell medicated. The scent wasn't overpowering but was light
and fresh and I’m a sucker for anything coconut scented.
A concern when using a conditioning product is that it will
feel oily but the conditioner felt great and made it
easy to comb through my hair. I have to
say I loved the scalp soother! It really
was refreshing and I could feel the coolness of it even a few minutes later as
I chatted with Joe. To avoid excessive heat, I don’t blow dry my
hair so I brushed it back to let it dry overnight. It felt and looked smooth and Genevieve kept
telling me my hair looked adorable. Head & Shoulders for the win.
The proof is in the image above. I mean, look at my gray and dry scalp 'before.' Yikes. The after looks so lush in comparison. And now that I got my hair did (since Missy Elliot turnt up at the
Super Bowl will people finally start getting my references?!), I could focus on
date night prep!
Date Night Hair
I flat ironed my hair like usual with a slight bend. My stylist gave me a center part for the
first time at my last appointment and I loved it but was a bit afraid of the
flakiness. Not anymore. Seriously Head & Shoulders took care
of that like a boss- I’m now rockin beautiful flake free hair. I used the flat iron to curl the sides back and
used my hands to give it some volume.
Done.
Date Night Look
Now it’s time to share a date night look to match your
gorgeous date night hair. There are so many pretty frocks out there but I
figured I’d keep it real and share looks suitable for new mommies since I am
one. In other words, loose fitting tops and layers.

Flake free hair thanks to Head & Shoulders means this mama is ready for date night.

So you remember here where I revealed my new look. Oh wait, I'm not a celeb; by revealed I mean posted a few photos. Well even though I loved it and Rhonda (my stylist at Milan Hair Studio) is amazing, I needed to go all the way. I took Rhonda's advice and "lived with it," but I wanted more. Short hair is addictive! I swear I want to go shorter every time I go in there (and I have). Well this was my inspiration this time around:
You have to realize my nervousness at posting a HALLE BERRY (one of the most beautiful women alive in my opinion) photo next to my picture. No one can say I don't aim high, that's for sure.
My hair may not be as versatile as hers...nor my features as gorgeous...but I somehow convinced myself that I could pull this off.
and this did me in. I saw this photo at the grocery store while waiting to check out, immediately took a picture, and FB messaged it to my stylist with the caption: "I'm ready!"
And here is the final result.
I needed a change. Kind of like this time. Except this time I wanted it to be obvious that I got my hair cut. (Last time I chose picture 5 and no one (except my dear co-author Megan) even noticed)! I wanted something edgy and cool. Most likely because I am not edgy, nor am I cool. But I can fake it right? I'm also not modeling anymore--so I didn't have to worry about being "commercial." And I'm also not getting any younger. So I thought I should embrace something fresh while I'm still young. And it resulted in this. What do you think? The picture doesn't translate it perfectly. It's a little more "piece-y" in person. I like it. I sort of chickened out and didn't go quite as short as I wanted. Take a look at my inspiration pictures at the end of the post...and tell me--do you think I should go even shorter next time?! My stylist (who knows me well and whom I love) advised me to "live with this" for a little bit first. Great advice. My major concern was maintenance. I don't have time to spend a half hour on my hair in the morning! So I'm going to see what the maintenance is like on this and how it looks as it grows out before I go even shorter...
In the first photo I've tucked the long piece behind my ear. In this one I left it out. (Oh and a con against short hair/no bangs-- I actually have to tweeze my eyebrows on a regular basis. Can you tell how crazy they are in this photo?!)
Side views--looks a little Carol Brady in the top shot but I think it's just the angle. Speaking of the top photo, I've recently discovered that unsightly dark spot near my chin/lip. Any suggestions for a product I can use to lighten that? ew!
And here was my inspiration:
I liked this but not so heavy...
I was VERY tempted to go with this...maybe next time?
Totally wasn't ready to shave my head.
Of course this one would have been the most work...but I LOVE it. Another issue- my hair texture is nothing like Halle's so I wasn't sure how it would translate.
Ok, spill- what would you change about your hair if you could? And what beauty product will erase that gross dark spot on my chin?
So hey, first of all I feel I must apologize for the lack of posting lately...and to tell you that it's probably not going to get much more awesome any time soon, as Megan adjusts to life with baby number 3 (i.e. lack of sleep, double the diapers, and feeding, bathing, or changing someone around the clock) and I adjust to being a full time working mom with no nanny (i.e. my mom moved out--insert heaving sobs here). Wow, my 'adjustment' doesn't look so tough after compared Megan's. Nonetheless I'm still feeling a bit daunted (is that a word?). Add to that my lack of creativity of late and you get, well...weeks between blog posts. I'm so sorry but I hope you'll bear with us because we love Taste{full} and we [heart] you guys and we're not going anywhere any time soon.
SO, now that that's off my chest comes the purpose of this post. And it's a desperate cry for help. I need change. I am feeling quite crummy about my personal appearance for a variety of reasons, with which I won't bore you. And while some things will take time, money, or plastic surgery to get under control, I'm thinking my hair is something I can change with a 2 hour salon appointment and less than $100.
I am so sick of this conservative bob type thing I've been sporting. And since I haven't come into any unexpected cash (why can't I be Oprah's half sister?!), I won't be getting Tyra's hair stylist to weave me up something nice any time soon. So, I guess that leaves me with one option--a cut. I'd like a cut and color but my hair...oh my hair...I could write pages and pages about my hair woes. My basic problem is that I go completely against its natural texture and relax it. Why? Because it's so nappy (what do white people call it-- kinky? super curly? You get my point) that I just do not have the time or patience to deal with it. There's a lot of "debate" about why black women straighten their hair but I'm not going to get into that right now. For now, suffice it to say it's both for form and function. BUT as a result of the chemical process that is 'relaxing,' as much as I'm tempted to add a fun color (I seriously want to be blond--I mean Beyonce does it, Tyra does it, Iman does it, Keri Hilson does it...oh wait, they all have fake hair. Right), I have to accept that I can only do one chemical process at a time. (or else I may end up like this. Which maybe wouldn't be so bad?!). Maybe in the future I'll experiment with extensions in a different color for a highlighting effect. But for now, I'm going to have to stop at a cut.
When looking for a cut I have to keep in mind that I have a 14 month old, so the Halle Berry cut that is my usual go to when I'm in need of something fresh, just isn't going to cut it. It's a bit too much effort. I need something that's still easy but a little edgier than my current look. I really don't want to look like a soccer mom any earlier than I have to. Here are a few options. What do you think? About my cut? About hair maintenance? About straightening or coloring our hair? About anything related to hair, really?! Let me know! I'm giving you the power to ChAnGe Me!!

Keri Hilson obsession. I ♥ these looks! I loved my bangs when I had them and the swooped bangs in the first and fourth photo are a bit less of a commitment than the blunt edge bangs. The "bowl cut meets the bob" is so traditional that it's kind of retro.
If my hair wasn't the slowest growing hair on Earth, I'd consider one of Rhianna's bolder looks but since it is(and I work in a corporate environment) this one is more suitable. It's super cute though and I love the long strands in the middle...
I don't even know who this girl is and this one is kind of out of the blue...but I like the simplicity of an angled bob with bangs. Although it's definitely the 'safest' of the bunch...
I love this cut and color. If I could color my hair (and wasn't brave enough for Keri's blond bob above), I'd go with this gorgeous bronz-y shade! The cut is fairly similar to my look now but a little more style and definition. If it makes me look even a tiny bit closer to Iman, I'm in! ;)
