I've been working on Dax's big boy room little by little. When I began planning its refresh, I decided to skip a theme. Since he's still little I know his interests will change. It feels like he was in his nursery just yesterday so I want to make sure this room can easily grow with him. For now, I'm incorporating all of the things he's into at 3. From truck bedding and vintage football decor to animals and superhero capes, it's all the stuff
My big girl turned 8 in November. Each year I have so much fun choosing her theme. Even on years when she chooses something I wouldn't (Lookin at you Minnie Mouse), it's still fun to get creative while she watches the party come to life. I planned this party in a few days with a trip to Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, and an Amazon Purchase. Sources and tips to throw your own simple party are at the end and throughout.
Eventually I will drop the "Non DIY" from my titles because let's be honest. The days of elaborate circus parties are over. All the parties are Non-DIY parties. I'm shockingly okay with it and find myself enjoying the challenge of planning a modern party with store bought stuff. It's all about making smart choices in that party aisle. ;) In addition, this was a joint party with two themes (you can see Nadia's Trolls Party here!), so keeping it simple was key. But also, I will never do 2 themes again. [face slap emoji].
Confession. Once I shared the girls' room, I realized it didn't feel right. This blog is called Pretty Real for a reason, so here's me keepin it real. I used to be all about color. My first kitchen was lime green. At the same time, I had an aqua bathroom and a bright red guest room. There's nothing wrong with bright colors, but there's a right way to do color and that ain't it. When we moved into our current home, I avoided large doses of bold color. I kept our home neutral but all of my color love spilled out into the girls' room. Oops. Their room also wasn't functioning well. There was too much stuff in the space and although it's a decent sized room, it felt overwhelming and cluttered.
I was at a meeting at church recently and Halloween came up. We were discussing how to reach our neighbors and one of the attendees mentioned that I could bless, rather than boo my neighbors. You guys know what I'm talking about right- when you leave treats on your neighbors doorstep and a sign that say's "You've been boo'd!"? I always thought that seemed fun but have a complicated relationship with Halloween (more on that later) so never thought to participate. I thought maybe my church friend had seen a"you've been blessed" tag somewhere but alas, I couldn't find one. I decided to throw one together and naturally decided to share it here!
