I’ve been working with Hello Big Idea for the past
several months fine tuning the design for Pretty Real. I wanted the blog to be
pretty in a real life sort of way. It’s no small feat for designers to try to
make something pretty, but not too pretty, but I’d say they nailed it with this
inspiration. I love the use of metallic
because I’m a tiny bit fancy. Of fun colors because they exude a positive outlook. Of
the playroom and the little fro because, well, that’s my world. Of the triangle
confetti because celebrations are one of my favorite things to share and one of
Pretty Real’s readers’ favorite things to see.
This new look has been a long time coming! And with it
will be a more refined focus. Our former tagline was “infusing chic into
everyday life.” But if I’m being honest,
“chic,” isn’t as much of a priority anymore.
Let’s be real: with three little ones, six and under, limited time, and
often a limited budget, “chic” sometimes seems unattainable. I chose the name pretty real because while I
like everything pretty, authenticity is very important to me. It’s not that the two are mutually exclusive.
But the temptation to focus more on the appearance of things in our social
media saturated condition is real. Instead
of trying to force the pretty, I want to find it. I want to inspire you to find the pretty
among the real. Let’s find or make a
pretty corner of our homes not covered by toys, papers, or laundry. Let’s find the pretty in our toddler’s eyes
right in the middle of that tantrum.
Let’s find the pretty in the clearance aisle of Target when we can’t
even afford box store full prices. I
hope you’ll find a pretty, but realistic DIY that makes you happy every time
you walk past it. Or one pretty idea for
a family celebration. I hope you’ll find
a pretty word of encouragement just when you need it. My grandma used to say “Pretty is as pretty
does.” Wise words right? Pretty IS
approachable because we make the
pretty.
