When summer ends, I get a little sad. But then along comes fall and football and things start to look up! We love hosting football watch parties with friends- especially since moving south and away from our home team. There's something about rooting for your home team, away from home, that builds camaraderie. But after the people, it's the food that matters. ha! While I'm always on the lookout for quick and easy game day snack recipes, I have a few go-to's that are serious crowd pleasers! Today I'm sharing the recipe for BBQ Taco Dip--one of my favorite homegating recipes, along with a favorite beverage that compliments it perfectly. If you're not salivating yet, just wait...

When choosing a recipe to feed a crowd during a football watch party, I think about a few things-
1) Is it easy peasy to whip up (ain't nobody got time to slave over the stove while the game is on!).
2) Does it combine yummy flavors and pair well with a refreshing drink like Coca-Cola®?
3) Is it easy to snack/munch while watching the game? I mean let's be real- the snacks are almost as important as the game itself. Relax, I said almost. ;)

Easy: Yep! The tomato is the only thing that needs chopping (or you could even grab it already chopped) and it takes just a few minutes to brown the meat.

Yummy flavors: YES. This BBQ taco dip combines melty cheese, savory taco meat, creamy sour cream, fresh and bright tomatoes, and the kicker- sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. Add the fizz of a Coca-Cola®, and you've got yourself a winner.

Munchable: Check. Guests can, and will, keep going back for more dip while the announcers question the refs' judgment and watch and re-watch the play in slow (and slower motion).

Here are the ingredients you need for this delicious and easy crowd-pleasing football party snack:

Ingredients
1 lb of ground beef
1 package of taco seasoning
2/3 c of Coca-Cola®
16 oz container of sour cream
1 packet of ranch dressing seasoning mix
1 1/2 c of shredded cheddar cheese (or more to your taste).
1 cup of shredded lettuce
2 Roma tomatoes, chopped
1/2 c of your favorite BBQ sauce

A few weeks ago I shared that I use Walmart's online grocery pick-up for about 99% of my grocery shopping (the 1% is when I forget something. It happens.). This super convenient service is totally FREE. I can "grocery shop" in my PJs, reserve a time to pick up and pick my items up without getting any little body in and out of a car seat and shopping cart (can I get an amen?!). Walmart makes it easy to find all my homegating/tailgating ingredients, paper products, party supplies, etc. in one fell swoop. Online grocery pick-up is seriously the best and saved my sanity this summer with all three kiddos home! There's no going back!

Okay back to the dip.

Instructions:
Brown the meat on medium/high until it's cooked through, following the instructions on the taco seasoning packet, swapping the water for Coca-Cola® (my packet called for 2/3 c of water).

While the meat cooks,  in a small bowl, mix the sour cream with the ranch dressing mix. Spread it on the bottom of a serving plate or a 9x12 dish.

Then, sprinkle the seasoned ground beef over it.

Sprinkle the cheese on top of the meat. I mean really, you could stop right there and no one would blame you.

Top that with the shredded lettuce, then sprinkle the tomatoes over it. Sorry, I combined steps- must have been in a rush to eat it.

And last, the ingredient that makes this dip next level- the BBQ sauce. I simply squeeze BBQ sauce on top in an up and down pattern. If you wanted to get fancy (and I know some of you do), you could use one of those small squeeze bottles to get a more precise "pour." I should also add, I didn't measure exactly how much. #oops. Just make sure it's good and covered!

I served it with homemade tortilla chips and Coca-Cola®.

That's it! Even as the meat cools, the dip is still so tasty! Pair it with Coca-Cola® for a refreshing sweetness that will put it over the edge. Your taste buds will thank you. Or me? Maybe they'll thank me.

Some of my favorite football memories are watching unbelievable comebacks with friends and family cheering by my side, or even the pain of disappointing losses being dulled by great company and delicious snacks. Yes, snacks are that powerful! If you're looking for more ideas and delicious homegating and tailgating recipes, check out the #KickoffwithGreatTaste site, here.
