I have three kids, all in different phases with varied needs, personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. They exhibit all of the normal behaviors for their ages-- attitude, bickering, not picking up after themselves, lack of self control, etc. Juggling that was starting to feel overwhelming so I decided to get more intentional in my parenting. When a close friend/mentor suggested Parenting on Purpose, I was all over it. While my kids have some of the best qualities (you can read about those here and here), I know we can do a better job training them to be respectful and responsible. Today I'm sharing what I liked about Parenting on Purpose and how it's helped our family.
I loved Dax's nursery but with the addition of a big boy bed (it's this one and we love it!), it was time to transition his room. I always imagined a cozy and calm reading nook as part of his big boy room. I try to keep the kids' bedrooms calm by adding soft textures, lots of books, soft lighting, and eliminating all most toys. See how Dax's nook came together plus my 5 must haves to create a reading nook of your own.
This hardly constitutes a blog post but I'm obsessed with strawberry syrup lately so I thought I'd pop in and share an easy recipe.
We eat pancakes every single weekend and sometimes it gets old. Adding fresh fruit syrup, caramelized bananas, nuts, chocolate chips, or sprinkles is a fun way to mix it up. I decided to make strawberry syrup on a whim one weekend and there's no turning back now! You can use the same recipe to make blueberry syrup.
Besides pancakes, I've mixed this strawberry syrup with seltzer to make better-for-you soda and used it to top vanilla ice-cream. It's delicious.
I don't always eat my pancakes with strawberry syrup, but when I do, I also add a huge scoop of whipped topping.

When you walk into the kitchen on a Saturday morning and hear your husband teaching your daughter how to make perfect scrambled eggs, you take a picture. Right??

Why yes, I should have cleaned my stove before snapping this picture.

So. so. good.
The color gets deeper and redder over time. I've eaten it up to a week and a half after refrigerating it. I bet it lasts longer. Also: I love this sweet little cruet. I use it for homemade salad dressing, cream for coffee if I'm hosting, oil/vinegar, etc.
You will feel so much better about all those carbs when it's topped with fresh homemade strawberry syrup. I promise. ;) Here's the recipe:
