7 Ideas to Decorate for Christmas Using Items you Already Have
10:18 PM
Have you ever 'swiped up' on an Instastory to see where a product was from and it was an $88 Christmas doormat? No? Just me? If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you know I'm not interested in spending $100 on a holiday doormat. ha! Decorating for Christmas on a budget is possible and with a little ingenuity, it can even look good. Whether your decor comes from Target, Studio McGee, or somewhere in between, I hope you'll find these ideas useful. Here are my favorite ways to use what I already have to decorate for the holidays.
#1- Hang past Christmas cards. I went to a friend's house last week and I saw all of her former Christmas cards hanging. It made me so happy and it wasn't even my family! I went digging and found the majority of ours and hung them pronto.
#2- Toss some ornaments in a bowl. I had some extra ornaments and I had a thrifted rattan bowl. I mean, obviously, they belonged together.
#3- Frame or display Christmas photos. Some years I frame a few Christmas pictures- Christmas card picture outtakes are so good for this purpose! This year, I simply pulled out a few December chatbooks and have been staring at my babies' cute and festive faces ever since.
#4- A stack of Christmas books on the table or your shelves. I love displaying these sweet books (as seen above)! If you missed the last post, I recommended some fun and sweet Christmas books (some faith-based; some not) plus others I've heard were great! You can read about it here.
#5- Add some red to everyday areas. I hung this red hat on our hall tree along with my red and navy plaid coat. Upstairs in our family room, I added a red Santa hat to Dax's kitchen which made me so very happy. While the hat has since gone missing, the $1 bottle brush tree has stayed. ;)
#6- Add faux greenery to a vase. I snagged these faux branches from Spot's playground and shopped my home for a vase to put them in. If you buy a real tree you could also use its trimmings. These branches are more expensive but so beautiful!
#7- Velvet pillows 4EVA. Once you have inserts, you can swap the pillow covers you grabbed after this post for a pair in a Christmas-y color. It doesn't have to be red or green, though I love both-- it could be any jewel tone or even ivory. Velvet just makes sense at Christmas time. I can't believe the price on these! I love them and they come in 28 colors!

(side note, that list is Genevieve's log of what Izzy, our elf, is caught doing each morning. Don't you just love childhood?).

green velvet pillow covers (so cheap!) | Stone cotton canvas pillow cover | fur pillow | fawn print pillow (not fur, but so pretty).
