The Perfect Ingredients for a Neighborly Boo Basket
10:47 AMHolidays that encourage us to open our homes to one another are my kind of holidays. Halloween is a great opportunity to introduce yourself to your neighbors or get to know them a bit better. If we're being honest, sometimes we just need an excuse! One way to ‘treat’ your neighbors this fall is with a neighborly boo basket! If you’re not familiar, a boo basket is a fun Halloween tradition where you secretly leave a basket full of goodies on your neighbor’s porch. Then they pay it forward. Intrigued? Good! I’ve spelled out everything you need to put one together! Here's how to make a fun Boo Basket...
First, start with the vessel. You’ll want something seasonal with room for goodies. A bushel basket like the one pictured, a woven basket, or a galvanized bucket make perfect seasonal containers that double as a gift. Also plan to use plenty of tissue paper at the bottom to create the pretty height/arrangement you see here!
Next, incorporate a homemade treat. This is an opportunity to
add a personal touch. For this basket, I used Eckrich Jalapeno and Cheddar Smoked Sausage Links wrapped in strips of croissant dough, baked, then
embellished with candy eyes- i.e. mummies in a blanket!
Add something savory such as smoked cheese and crackers. They pair well with your mummies and can be enjoyed right away or saved for an impromptu snack.
What’s Halloween without sweets? Adding candy pumpkins, fruit,
or another sweet treat balances the savory snacks and makes sure any kiddos in
the household won’t be disappointed.
If you have room, include a beverage. I used a root beer
because, well, it’s black. But apple cider would be great too.
Don’t forget the whimsy! It is Halloween after all. This
basket includes a pretend spellbook, a plaid mug, and a spider web dish towel.
Shop the seasonal section of your favorite store and pick whatever speaks to you.
