A DIY Sleepover Set Up for Nadia
4:48 PMSweet Nadia Sophie turned 13 last week and her request was a sleepover set up like Genevieve's 13th- but make it glam cowgirl. Challenge accepted! I used Genevieve's party as a template but swapped the whimsical canopies for a huge DIY Fringe garland, added lots of shimmer and disco balls, and lots of little themed details! Guys, this is my happy place. At the end I'll share a note about DIYing this set up plus the activities the girls enjoyed but let's start with some DIYs and details to look for in this fun glam cowgirl 13th birthday sleepover:
DIY Fringe Banner
DIY mini throw blankets
Personalized Favors
Individual air mattresses all dressed up

DIY Fringe Banner:
For the fringe banner, I used 4 tablecloths per color in pink, white, and hot pink, and 2 silver tablecloths. It's easy but time consuming. I have a highlight saved here- but here's the quick and dirty tutorial: cut them into 2" wide strips, and then tie them onto clothesline. That's it! It's very low cost but makes a huge impact! This one cost less than $20 to make. I used command hooks to hang them. Side note, you can also purchase them here!
Party Favors and DIY Mini Throw Blankets
In hindsight, I should have used the same containers I used for Genevieve's party but I used these cute scallop bins from the dollar tree instead. I personalized them using my Cricut (she's been getting a lot of use lately- I love her) but the bins themselves are just too fragile. Trust me- just buy these instead. I found these fun planners at Walmart, and added the glasses and scarves. I got the glasses and scarves from Hobby Lobby, but if you're looking to shop online these seem identical and are the same price.
That time I made 9 mini throw blankets. Why am I like this? Also me: they're perfect. I sewed most of them after trying no sew hem tape and fabric glue- neither of which I recommend for this heavy fleece. I got the fabric from Hobby Lobby and the associate was kind enough to cut it by the yard which saved me so much time! I recommend these for an easier (but still cute) experience. I used these for Genevieve's 13th and they're also very cute!
Balloon Backdrop
Even though our cute banner didn't make it in time, the party backdrop came together! This $10 balloon banner kit included enough balloons for the backdrop you see here plus a handful of balloon bouquets elsewhere. Note: I added one more fringe curtain.

A note about DIYing this set up:
When Genevieve turned 13, I looked locally for a place to set up a sleepover and all I found were teepees that were too small and a super cute glamping option that wouldn't fit in our yard. So I decided to do it myself figuring it would likely be around the same price as renting. I ended up selling the entire set up which worked out well. While DIYing it is a bit more work, I get joy from it! If you don't get joy from DIY yet you still want a fun option for older girls, I suggest focusing on the beds- a bright throw, a fun pillow, and a sheet set. If you have room for twin beds or fewer attendees, these air mattresses are just $14.88! Of course I've linked what I used.
Activities:
The girls pretty much entertained themselves and we ran out of time to do a lot of what I had planned but they jumped on the trampoline (these added to the fun!), did a neighborhood scavenger hunt, did face masks (they used these), and roasted marshmallows.
