A Look at Our Loft and A Beautiful New Rug - Pretty Real

A Look at Our Loft and A Beautiful New Rug

I was given the Mohawk Simon Studio rug in exchange for a review. As a reminder, I only work with brands and products I think you'd love and of course all opinions are mine.

I've slowly been showing you around our home. You've seen the kitchen, the living room, the playroom, the guest room, and Dax's room. And while I'm slow with afters due to this pesky thing called a "budget" [imagine air quotes please], I hope you see value in the befores. Our loft is a blank slate. It's cozy and comfortable and I could live with it as is for awhile. But when Mohawk Home approached me about sharing a review of one of their rugs, I jumped at the chance to get a little bit of personality in there. I love the idea of layering area rugs over carpet. It infuses the space with personality, it's a great temporary solution for renters, and it protects your wall to wall carpet.

But first, a little about the loft. The loft is right at the top of our stairs and opens to a hallway leading to the bedrooms. It's our family room where we watch movies, football, and hang out. We have a massive comfy sectional in there that is perfect for lounging. My goals for this space include: playful, no-fuss, and kid friendly. While eating in bedrooms is a no-no, snacks during movie nights are a must so anything that goes into the space needs to be easy to clean. Which brings me back to the rug.

I chose the Simon Studio Rug. I hope this post helps those who might consider this rug because it's tough to tell what it truly looks like from a stock photo online. In person, the rug is beautiful. It's lush and thick and the children wouldn't stop rolling around on it and exclaiming how soft it is. It's perfect for bigger gatherings where people might sit on the floor, for playing games, and for little toes. The Simon Studio rug is a darker beige rug (it's not white or even cream- it definitely has warm undertones) and has a beautiful Aztec pattern with subtle colors running through it. I'd say blue is the primary color but you can see some blush/rose colored tones as well. It's just a really fun rug. One of the biggest selling points of Mohawk Home Rugs for me is the cleanliness factor. They are made of stain and soil resistant materials so they're ideal for family spaces. I had a wool dhurrie rug in our old home and while I loved the look, it didn't mix with kiddos. Besides that they are made in the USA from recycled materials which is also pretty cool (I loved this video detailing that process). Lastly they are resistant to crushing, matting, and everyday wear so they're perfect for my hard-on-everything family. ;)

There is still much to do in this room. I initially wanted a bright almost white rug for this space to balance out that dark sectional so I'm still noodling that. Assuming the Simon Studio stays in this room, I'd want to swap out our expedit for wood shelves. I think wood would pair nicely with the motif of this rug. We also still need a coffee table or ottoman, wall art, and end tables. But considering this is phase 1, I'm pretty happy with it.
