I spent some time with my niece recently and she has two cuties going back to school soon. I'm pushing aside the fact that I'm a great-aunt which is like a stone's throw from a grandma, and focusing on blessing my niece, who's a single mama, with back to school clothes for her kiddos. I have my crew to outfit too so I immediately shopped on Walmart for their affordable prices! My money goes so much further at Walmart and the style and quality are on point. Here's most of what I purchased!

Back to school shopping used to be fun. Unlike when I was a kid, the lists now are very specific and very...how do you say...boring. For example: "Red folder. Black Expo Dry Erase Markers. 3" White Binder." No Lisa Frank or Trapper Keepers (showing my age here) allowed. The pro of a very specific back to school supply list is that you can skip the store and have all of the school supplies delivered right to your doorstep- which is precisely what I did! I did 90% of my school supply shopping on Walmart.com, back in May but I almost wish I'd waited because the rollbacks are insane! This time of year can be expensive so I'm happy to save where I can and Walmart makes it easy. Here's how to do your back to school shopping in MINUTES plus my favorite supplies from Walmart at the end!

The first day of school is Monday. WHAT?! How did that happen? If you haven't finished your shopping, I wanted to warn you not to sleep on the amazing prices and the new brands that Walmart carry- brands like Reebok, Justice, Champion, and Steve Madden to name a few. So good! I'm also loving their internal brands like Wonder Nation (it's all so adorable and well made) and Garanimals. The other thing I love is that it's been increasingly tough to find stylish clothes for girls from the 8-12 range and these lines nail it! Here are the things Genevieve (11) and Nadia (9) chose and my haul for Dax (6). And bonus- only one item is over $20 with most pieces falling in the $6-$12 range!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. My kids will eat almost anything if it's deconstructed.
Example:
Me: Kids want a salad?
Kids: No!
OR
Me: Guys, I made a choose-your-own-toppings salad bar!
Kids: Cool! Yum!
One afternoon last week, I admitted it: I couldn't wait for school to start. We've had so much fun (#summerwithmytrio on Instagram as proof!) but
the bickering
the making messes in one room while I clean the other
the attitude
the noise
the lack of alone time
the complaining
the 12 snacks per day
Dear Nadia,
How are you already in Kindergarten?! How is it that you are nipping at the heels of SIX years old? How did that happen?
Do you know I worry about you being the middle child? You're not the oldest, the baby, or the only son. Will you feel overlooked? Will you feel lost? Will you feel cheated? But then on days like today, on the eve of your first year in elementary school, days where I have all the excitement and nervousness in the world as if I haven't been through this before, days where I get teary eyed at the thought of letting you go, I know you'll be okay. I know you'll feel special and loved and looked after. Because you are sweet girl. Don't think I don't notice.

Back to school clothes shopping can be overwhelming. I try to avoid taking all three kiddos to any store ever (What? I'm fragile) so I do much of my shopping online. But over the months leading up to school, I see sales and cute styles everywhere but fail to take the time to pull it all together. This year I'm teaming up with some fantastic bloggers to share a $100 Amazon gift card giveaway so it was the perfect opportunity to pull together some super cute looks for Genevieve's back to school wardrobe. I made sure to include many items from Amazon, several styles, and lots of budget friendly options. Make sure to shop the sales and use promo codes, for the best deal! And don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end! Here's the first look (affiliate links included):
I'm trying not to think of the fact that summer is...well over. That those lazy days of playing in the back yard and eating watermelon are over. Instead, I'm getting excited about apple picking, crisp cool weather (and apple crisp for that matter), football, chunky knit sweaters, and yummy warm meals. Mmmm. Yes. I'm feeling better about summer winding down already! The thing is, fall is a busier season for many of us. In my family it's Joe's professional activities picking up, more wedding photography (yay!), and Genevieve's dance. For many of you, September means the start of making time for homework and extra curricular activities. So how do you get a good meal on the table (you know--one that doesn't involve a take out menu) in a hurry? You want to provide good food for your family, or that new mama, or that potluck crowd right? Well here are my tips and tricks for making a quick and easy crowd pleasing casserole + a recipe to die for.
