I prefer subtle fall decor (ie you'll find just a pumpkin or two in my home). In that vein, I also prefer preserved floral, grasses, or twigs to faux flowers but sometimes it's hard to maintain preserved stems season after season. Let me start by saying, guys, this ain't your mama's Walmart. At this point, no one should be surprised at the on trend items that are popping up at Walmart but also no one is surprised that the prices are just so great. Walmart Home just released its fall edit and I'm in love with so many pieces! The rattan boxes! The leather chairs! The plaid curtains! I rounded up my favorite pieces plus created a living room mood board with items solely from the edit. I have mixed feelings about seasonal decorating. I don't like clutter, and I don't love the thought of buying new things that I can only use for a small part of the year. But I also love the coziness of adding layers for fall and it kind of feels like a lead up to the most wonderful time of year- little celebrations each month that lead to the main event. Plus it's also just fun. Of course it's fun. Each year it seems I come to a point where I embrace it, but I've learned a few things that make seasonable decorating feel more practical and attainable. Here they are-

I'll be the first to admit that when fall hits, it makes me want to buy all the things. All the new lines come out, the new colorways, and suddenly my bright and cheery home seems, well bright and cheery. I want to toss the fern in the garbage, throw the pink pillows in the closet, and go all moody and cozy. While I typically buy a thing or two, I try to keep it simple and mostly use what I already have to create a warm vibe for fall. Here are a few ways to infuse fall into your dreadfully bright and cheery home. ;)

I thought of a few titles for this post.  One was "Pretty and Approachable Fall Mantel" but I'll be honest, no one is going to put that into google search and I'm all about SEO these days. Hashtag keepin it real. My point is that you don't have to be a designer or have a beyonce budget to create a pretty mantel.  Side note: I often get overwhelmed, rather than inspired by all the beauty out there. I'm always looking for inspiration but it's nice to have attainable inspiration from time to time. Hopefully you'll find that here today. Here's what I came up with + scroll to the bottom for my top 5 tips to create a budget friendly fall mantel.

Today I'm sharing a simple and quick fall vignette! Although I am very festive I sometimes get overwhelmed by choices and then end up doing nothing.  That describes me in general, but is definitely true when it comes to my seasonal decor.  So take my tiny budget and my proclivity to buy something because it's inexpensive vs. because I really like it, and well you get a general lack of progress.  I end up not using items I bought a season or two ago because I no longer like them.  I'm getting better by buying one item a season to build up a collection, but it's slow going!  Just keepin it real folks.  I'm sure someone out there can relate.  Anyone?  

I love fall.  (It's what comes next that I'm not so crazy about).  Between enjoying the season and the wonderful bible study I'm participating in (with its abundance of homework), I really haven't had much time to blog.  Which--as always--makes me sad!  Nevertheless I thought I'd at least pop in and share some photos from two of my favorite fall traditions: apple picking and the fair.

So you know how obsessed I am with parties right?!  And how I see one tiny little item in Target's $1 (or $3--don't even get me started) section and plan a party around it in my head?  Well for awhile I've been collecting little toddler outfits and ensembles that could easily inspire entire parties...all with the intention of sharing them to inspire you!  If you stopped by earlier this week, you saw my teaser of my latest post over on Live the Fancy Life doing just that.  Today, I'm featuring one of my own parties as inspiration + supplies + an adorable outfit (or three) to match.  Check it out:

I've been meaning to post about Genevieve's birthday for a while.  I was excited to plan a cute but simple fete and even more excited to actually get good photos of it (so hard to stop and take pictures or be organized enough to have time to do it beforehand).  I was going back and forth regarding a theme but once I saw this post on the HWTM blog, I was hooked.  It was perfect for Genevieve.  At the time she was obsessed with pumpkins and I liked that it highlighted the fall season vs. me wistfully wishing she was born in June so that I could plan an outdoor summer party.  You gotta work with what you got people!  Also, due to our home remodel (which maybe I'll post about one day?), we really don't have much space to entertain so I planned to host it at my in-laws.'  My MIL's house is a fall harvest extravaganza with every fall color, foliage, and decoration you can imagine.  Perfect.
I really wanted to keep the party simple (KISS principle anyone?) after the craziness of her party last year.  The temptation when you are copying inspired by an idea is to copy it exactly.  However, let's get real- most of these parties are planned by professional party planners for people who, how shall I say it without sounding tacky- um, have freakin boatloads of cash. :)  I am not and do not.  Besides you want to be able to come up with something to call your own.  Doesn't matter if a party is gorgeous if it doesn't reflect you and  your child.  Ok it might matter a little...but only a tiny bit. ;) In that vein, I imitated a few of the elements I liked, then added a few details to make it my own.  So here are the photos along with descriptions and sources.

What better birthday cake for a fall party than a four layer luscious pumpkin cake?  I made this years ago for Thanksgiving and have always wanted to make it again. 
Favor table.  I took the HWTM idea of giving out the lil pumpkins but put them in a cute ball jar wrapped with ribbon and rope twine.
I love the idea of framing the invitation for party decor.

The thing I love best about these is that they apparently flatter curves. I know many women who have curves and are afraid to wear skinny jeans as a result. While my knowledge of this particular pair of jeans isn't first hand, if you take the time to read the reviews, you'll notice an amazing trend. Reviewers are exuberantly stating that curvy girls can wear skinny jeans too, as noted by these review titles: "Curvy girls will love these," and "Yes curvy girls! You CAN wear jeggings!"
