I've been sharing Walmart for years - well before they paid me to do so- but I'm still a tiny bit surprised when I find a head-to-Walmart looks that look so much more expensive and are made with quality stitching and materials. I am not obligated to write a blog post but I like to share still photos and something more permanent (fine, and more wordy) than a reel so here are my latest Walmart fashion picks with fit and style notes!
When the kids get back to school clothes, so do I. ha. Per usual, Walmart didn't disappoint. I shared a reel today that you'll definitely want to check out since it shows how I mixed and matched everything I bought to create a bunch of different looks but I wanted to share a few of the looks here too to pin or shop from for later. Side note: the reel is sponsored- this blog was not; I'm just excited and wanted to have these affordable fall fashions on the blog!
This dress was one of my favorite picks!! It has a dropped waist in the middle, flutter sleeves, and a zipper- add this sultry merlot color and it just hits! So good! I paired it with these kitten heel ankle booties for an edgier look but you could wear heels for a dressier look!
Something about me, I love a voluminous sleeve. Poet! Puff! Give it to me! Love it paired with the utility pants but check out the reel to see it with black denim too!
This sweater in every color! It's so inexpensive and I love the fit- you could even size up one for a more slouchy look (I'm in a medium here, my normal size). The jeans fit SO well around my booty/waist but at 6', they are too short for me. Needed to show you anyway because they're too cute!

I don't know why but fall = sweatpants. Is it just me? I want to be warm and cozy as the temps drop and while I could say this only applies to lounging at home, I'd be lying. From my kids' sporting events to running errands - I want to be comfy. The problem is no matter how hard I try to convince myself that comfort is the priority, I still want to look put together. I recently discovered the secret. And it's so so simple. Just add a trench. That's it. You immediately look more pulled together, regardless of what's underneath. I love the outerwear at Walmart right now- I have several jackets from Walmart and the quality for the price can't be beat! Take a look at how a trench elevates these casual outfits:
Have you heard of 'the 3rd piece?' Rather than stopping at jeans and a tee, layer on a unique jacket or bag (your basic black purse doesn't count!) to immediately look more polished. It's still in the 90s here but I'm craving fall fashion hard. I've been brainstorming looks other than my jeans and a t-shirt uniform, and Walmart's fall fashion is delivering. I thought it would be fun to choose one shirt and style it 4 ways with various layers from Walmart. The most expensive piece is $45- which is just crazy for a lined tailored blazer- but prices start at $15.98. Most of these items are available from XS to XXL or sizes 02 to 18. A while ago I took 4 or 5 photos of myself in various outfits for a "What I wore" series. But then I realized I had to get dressed, put makeup on, AND clean (enough to take a photo without mad chaos looming in the background) even when I wasn't going anywhere...and I thought, this just isn't worth it. [insert winky face here]. Addthe fact that my clothes are mostly thrifted, from Target, Old Navy, or Gap...and well it's just not that interesting. But I've been trying to do clothing reviews over on Tall Snob any time I buy a tall clothing item. I know I haven't shared my work over on Tall Snob in a while but I had fun with this post--which brought back the "What I Wore" series that never happened. I love cute lounge wear and this pair of pants fit the bill! The best part--you can cut them to any length you desire. I couldn't wait to review them and try dressing them up for summer and fall. Here's the final product.

This is a little late...My birthday was a couple of weeks ago actually! But I just wore my present for the first time last night and I wanted to tell you about it. I have a hard time spending more than $50 on anything. I've lucked out and gotten some of my nicest boots (that retail for $150+) on sale at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for just under my weird self imposed threshold. But I've been craving a couple of pairs of nice dark brown boots/shoots. I happened upon these initially at AE.com. They were on sale and I had a store credit that would have made them $55. As luck would have it, when I finally stopped debating and went to purchase them (you know--for my birthday!), they were sold out! Boo! I just couldn't justify spending $100 on this pair of shoes (to be clear, I have justified it before...I just couldn't this time ;). Even though I wanted them. So bad. Then I checked Amazon. My how I love that site. And they were less there. In the meantime I'd gotten some birthday money so I decided to go for it. I wore them last night and I love them! They were so comfortable.

I feel like the fact that I occasionally blog about fashion means life is slowly returning to normal after having this sweet girl. I'm over at Tall Snob today discussing pretty puffers. Take a peek--all of the items featured come in "regular" sizes, not just tall sizes. And the most affordable one? $17! That price is amazing enough to tempt me to add a 6th puffer to my closet. (Yes I'm embarrassed that I have so many but not embarrassed enough to stop seriously considering the $17 option. This is what you call a problem).

I could write 200 posts about boots. Boots, Jeans, and Coats are my addiction. And I have a lot of all (hence Taste{Full}: Shop our Closets). But this isn't about me...It's about your fall wardrobe and the staples that comprise it. So for our readers who live down south (yes, I'm talking to you Brittaney), you may not get as much value out of this post, but for you New England gals, this is going to resonate.
How often do you fight the "cute or warm?" battle? I fought it just yesterday while getting dressed for the fair. [fighting reminiscing about apple crisp and ice-cream now]. It's so easy to be cute in the summer. But in the winter...it's almost as if with each layer we throw on we get fatter and less stylish. And seriously girls, who wants that?! That's what I LOVE about fur boots. Fur trimmed boots are cute, warm, and comfortable. Tuck them into skinny jeans with a chunky sweater and you just look effortlessly stylish--which in my opinion is the best kind of style.

Which got me thinking about a fur boot post. Of course I didn't purchase them at the time (it was my husband's turn to be extravagant, not mine--more on that in another post). However, the minute I got home I started doing searches for them . While I didn't find that specific pair at a price I wanted to pay, I did find a variety of other very cute options.
Now of course there are tons and tons of options out there. But I chose these three to highlight. All of these boots are warm- fleece or Sherpa lined and cozy as all get out. Two of the three can be folded up or down (versatility is awesome) and the last pair...well they are just plain fun. Those of you who love mukluks will appreciate this cheaper version of them. I also wanted to show that there are a variety of textures to choose from. You can wear these with skinny jeans, skinny cords, sometimes even flared or straight leg jeans look cute "piled" on top of them. You can also wear with shorts (I have a pair of velour bermuda's I love to whip out in the fall and pair with tights and boots), or a skirt and tights. Some brave souls even pair with dresses. I'm like a broken record, but [say it with me], the possibilities are endless!
So if you don't already have a pair of cute, warm, fur boots, let this be motivation to you to go for it!

So the must haves continue. One of the things that get me gaga for fall (lady gaga has absolutely ruined the word "gaga" for me. Much like Obama ruined the words "hope" and "change," but I better move on before the hate mail starts rolling in...) is corduroys! I don't know if it's the 7 year old school girl in me or what but I have always, always loved cords. Fine wale, wide wale, whatever wale you choose! Now I have never owned a pair of skinny cords but that is about to change as soon as the Old Navy package arrives on my doorstep.
Personally, I feel like a boy when I try boyfriend but some people pull them off beautifully. I love the color of this Banana Republic pair almost enough to make me try the cut. They are a little pricier at $79.50 but in the world of fashion and fashion magazines, that's still pretty cheap (though in my world it's not, so if it isn't in your world either, don't despair. I'm right there with you!). However, right now they are having a 20% off sale so it would be a good time to buy!
The awesome thing about cords is they give your wardrobe a bit of variety. Typically (especially in the colder seasons) I'm wearing dress pants for work, or jeans. Well I can totally get away with wearing Cords to work and it feels like I'm wearing jeans; even better, on the weekend, I can throw on a chunky sweater or vintage tee and cardi and I'm ready to go and feel so....FALL. And as with everything, tuck it into a pair of Uggs and you're golden.
These are the Old Navy skinny cords I ordered. They arrived last night and I ♥ them. The only problem is they run really small. So if you order them, order up a size. Besides that, I love the velvety fine wale texture, the length (they come in petite and tall), and the price--$34.50

Ok first I have to make fun of myself for titling this post "must have." I always laugh at magazine articles that tell me what I "must have," because A) they are not buying it for me and B) it's super convenient for them to profit off of my insatiable desire to be cutting edge. Lest I lose you, I'll hop off of my soapbox since, let's face it, I am hardly the poster child for anti-consumerism. So, I'm resigned to using the phrase "must have" because, seriously you have to have these items. ;)
Now I have been on a fashion fast of sorts (now my earlier rant is making sense huh?), trying to avoid the mall, stores, and fashion magazines. Why, you ask? Another post for another time. The only reason I even mention it is as a disclaimer that I might miss something over the next few "must have" posts. Ok now on to more fun topics. My first fave for fall is....
jeggings, denim leggings, jean leggings or whatever you'd like to call them. I have tried on a pair of these at Forever 21, have a pair in my old navy cart as I type, and own an awesome INC pair and I love them. I love the look of skinny jeans but the comfort of leggings. I love that they don't leave that nasty gap at my waist that jeans often do if you have a booty. I love that you can tuck them into uggs

I love true religions. I'm not sure why. I have absolutely no reason to be brand loyal to them...well I guess that's not entirely true. I have one pair that I wear ALL the time and 3 years after that purchase they still look good and make me feel good! What's not to be loyal to?! As a result whatever the trend I always look for it in True Religion. That's not to say I purchase them (as soon as I hit the big time I'll be purchasing TRs as often as my heart desires but until then...), but I certainly lust after them, e-mail pictures of them to other shopaholic friends (Meg and Abby this means you), and hint to my husband to get them FOR me (the sweet man bought me the other pair...let's just repeat that shall we?!). These aren't exactly as budget friendly as Old Navy's. At $190 you may have to go without your daily Starbucks run for a couple of months, but that just might be a trade I'd be willing to make.
If you're looking for a happy medium between 39.50 and 190, I think you've found it. I love these Gap Legging Jeans in faded black wash. I love how they aren't cheesy looking and look substantial enough to not make you wish you had the shape of a 12 year old boy. You can celebrate your curves in these. And I LOVE the wash. Not quite black just looks edgy without even trying. I could see wearing these with Chuck Taylors or something closer to the almond toe platforms the model is wearing. One word: SEXY.
