$5 DIY Little Girl's Jewelry Display.

Remember my DIY memo board? Well I decided to use the same approach to make a little jewelry holder/display for Genevieve. I already had gray chevron fabric (I still love chevron; especially in gray) that I snagged from the remnants section during this shopping spree. I figured it'd be an inexpensive but useful addition to her room. Side note: does anyone else's mom have a necklace buying obsession? Don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining (we love you grandma!). I just needed a place to keep all the cute baubles she sends. This won't be a tutorial because I used the exact same method as here. But a couple of things.
First--You don't even really need glue for this. I realized this halfway through when I ran out spray adhesive. Since there's no frame on this board, you can just wrap and staple. My staple gun also broke during this project so Icursed and pouted ended up using cheap thumbtacks to finish. In case you're wondering, don't buy an $8 staple gun. It lasted me through one project.
This was a really cheap project since I didn't end up using the colorful thumbtacks pictured (they weren't ideal for holding jewelry since they had no "lip.") Here's the cost breakdown:
Fabric: $0 had it on hand. But it was a 1/2 yard remnant and very cheap in the first place. And I probably only used half of it.
Cork Board: $3.50 (on sale from $5.00) from Hobby Lobby
Thumbtacks: $1.39, I think. from Target.
Total: $4.89 (+ a few dollars for fabric if you don't have any on hand). Not bad huh?
The board came with mounting tape so I excitedly added it to her gallery wall. Then I realized the tape would probably rip the paint right off of the wall which isn't an option when you're as indecisive as I am. I also wasn't 100% sold on the arrangement so I took it down. But not before I snapped a picture!
I love it when a project is easy and inexpensive! Now I just need to make one for myself. Kind of like hers.

Secondly-- I tried putting thumbtacks around the perimeter but I didn't like how that looked...maybe because I tried to be fancy and use the decorative ones? I realized after they were all in place (sorry for the lack of photos) that I preferred the simpler look. Let the jewelry be the star.
