The Girls' Room So Far: the Good, Bad, and the Ugly - Pretty Real

The Girls' Room So Far: the Good, Bad, and the Ugly

Rattan Headboards, boho pillows, and a pink side table
The girls' room isn't finished but I'm calling new headboards, bedding, a dresser, and a nightstand the conclusion to phase 1. You might remember it looking like this. While it was cute, turns out it was a bit too busy for us. I'll share more about that in a separate post but for now, I wanted to share where things stand- particularly for those of you who were mesmerized by the painting woes from my Instagram stories. 😂

Can I be honest? The nightstand looks better in real life than in this picture. But it's staying... for now.

The thing that started it all was swapping their adorable upholstered headboards for this pair of fun rattan headboards ♥ HOT TIP: If you're looking for something unique but don't want to pay the hefty price tag "unique" often requires, put an ISO on buy/sell/trade sites. That's what I did and it yielded a few options with these stunners being the winner!

The curtains aren't here to stay. And we clearly need a bigger basket to contain the 1000 ty stuffies. (eye roll).

I ordered art from this amazing artist for over their beds but I have no idea how to print and frame an A3 size (standard in other countries but not here). Send tips my way!

A beautiful rug will work wonders for this room! Let's hope I can find one for a great price. I love this one, but is it too much?

A messy shared closet, the before shot

I told you I'd show you the ugly. Well, here it is! This is one of those "take everything out" moments I'll discuss next week but man oh man do my eyes hurt. Consider this the before shot!

Books sorted by the rainbow in a shared girls' room

I'm debating what to do with this wall. Ledge shelves like I did here (or like she did here?), a 'real' bookshelf? A bigger cubby like I did in the girls' toddler room?

They tell me they're over barbies. I'll be a little sad to see these go.

This cute hamper deserved a photo all its own. After living with a plastic broken one for a couple of years, it was time. HOT TIP: TJ Maxx online has so many amazing baskets and hampers (here)! This one was just $10. The smaller size would work for one person and is still available here.

Clearly, this room hasn't been styled at all. I literally just cleaned it (and I must be doing something right because it literally only took 10ish minutes) and shot away.

When it's finished, I'll steam the duvets. I promise.

For now, I'm diggin it. A rug and curtains will make the biggest impact but I'm in no rush. In fact, I'm enjoying its minimal feel while it lasts.

  2. Haha your comment about getting an A3 frame made me smile, I'm in Australia and everytime I want to buy something from Minted or Society 6 etc finding a frame for the artwork measured in inches is the biggest problem. Whereas A3 frame? No problem! Have you looked on ebay for an A3 frame?
