Nadia's Peachy Pink Room Fit for a Preteen
10:17 AMWell if this wasn't a labor of love, I don't know what is. ♥ Genevieve moved out of the girls' shared room 2 years ago and I'm finally finished creating a space for Nadia that's all her own. She requested something light and bright, "preppy" (the new preppy- IYKYK), and specifically said she didn't want it to be boho. Guys the boho pull is strong with this one (me. It's strong with me), so this was a tough ask. I made some missteps along the way and to be completely transparent, some I'm only 'seeing' after pulling it all together and photographing it... but in the end, she walked in and said "Mom, I love it." So that's enough. Reminder (one that I got from a friend yesterday) that homes are to "serve and nurture our families first, aesthetics are secondary." Ok, enough disclaimers. Here goes!
Some DIYs to look for:
DIY canopy made of PVC and sewn curtain panels
Wall Trim
Custom Bedding (not DIY)
First, here's a pulled back look...
A word about practicality and designing for kids. My daughter still plays with dolls and that cubby (below) is a DIY dollhouse. It's always a mess so I grabbed these baskets to house the doll stuff but I'm eager to add a bookshelf when the dolls are done. But also, let them be little right?!
And here are the details:
I couldn't wait to style these pegs but soon enough they will house medals on red, white, and blue ribbon, and random collectibles. I'm ok with it ♥
Mini Backpack | Hanging Plant | Hanging Basket
Nadia is very into theater and The Sound of Music was the first production she got a part in. We were so proud of her!
*Custom mat from Hobby Lobby
This kantha blanket deserves a close up. It's so pretty and well made and I can't believe the price!
I could not decided between matchy pillows (below) or a pop of modern color. If you follow on Instagram, you know I had a different plan for art above the bed and the geo pillows worked really well with the colors in that art. In the end I chose the modern pillows because a) the room feels very sweet as it is and b) I wanted something fun and quirky that didn't match perfectly. Side note, I suggest having something bold/different/weird/quirky/unexpected in every room. For fun though I took some photos with the brown pillows on the bed and I have to admit, it's such a pretty look!
The room feels very pretty and fresh and she loves it! There are a few things I'd love to swap when the perfect thing comes along (the con to sharing projects on social is eventually you have to share them (ha) and can't necessarily wait to come across the perfect item), but we're calling it done-ish!

Paint Color
Benjamin Moore Raleigh Peach
I used the less expensive "Ben" line and don't recommend it. Just use the good stuff. This color is a challenge to photograph but it's a muted peach with at pink tone.
Furniture + Lighting
Bed Frame - FYI, I don't recommend this if you plan to attach the headboard to it. However, if you have a floating or DIY headboard, it's very pretty and looks high end.
Bedding
Windows
Art
Sound of Music + Frame (custom mat made at Hobby Lobby)
Pennant- It's old and I cannot remember where I found this
Decor
Hanging Glass Frame
Hanging Basket
Baskets in "dollhouse"
